NATional Merit Scholar
Each Fall we have a collection of students interested in PSAT/NMS tutoring. We offer two tutoring formats, and students have split on which they prefer.
Two Formats
1) SAT Boot Camp
Some have opted to enroll their students in our September SAT Boot Camp, which leads up to the early October SAT (with the PSAT a week or so later). Despite the group format, our boot camps are individualized, with students taking official sample tests at the outset and receiving instance reports on trends in their incorrect responses on our platform. This initiates a cycle of targeted strategy and practice in break out groups.
2) One-on-One Tutoring
Our other option is to have NMS candidates take a course of 6-8 One-on-One sessions in the weeks preceding the PSAT. Students meet with their tutor for one contact hour and are required to complete 2-3 hours of homework each week.
In either format, we tend to start students with full (official) SAT diagnostics, transitioning to PSAT tests from the last 3 years as the test approaches to get a better sense of the pacing on the PSAT. According to our stats analysis, the SAT & PSAT have similar question types and distribution in the high 80% range.
